It’s almost the new year and some of us are already setting goals that we want to accomplish for next year. Well, if you’re like me and you want to set goals for yourself next year, this blog post will give you 10 ways to change your lifestyle now, and for the next year, and help you enjoy life a bit better. I want you to create a life you want, and for you to do that, you start here and now. We all deserve to live a little better, don’t we?
How do you make the life you want?
It all starts with you. It all starts with you what you value, love, want to do in life. If you want to travel, make that your life experience. This post will show you different ways on how to create the life you want, but it will be up to you. Plus, you don’t have to make the life you want extravagant. If you want a more peaceful life, seek anything that is peaceful to you. If you want more of an adventure, start small but make those adventure fun and own it.
However, I would like to point out what creating a life you want is NOT:
- Observing someone else’s life and wanting it so badly without even starting yours – it is okay to look at someone’s else and seeing their success and adventure. However, sometimes, if you keep looking at their life, you might feel resentful or even jealous.
- Scrolling endlessly on Instagram and wishing for a life change – stop scrolling and start doing!
- Writing out your dreams but not starting on it – there’s more than writing out what you want. I mean do you write your grocery list and do nothing?
So let’s get started, shall we?
Create A Life You Want By Living In The Moment
Living in the moment doesn’t have to be a big thing. Something as simple as doing something that makes you happy at the moment could certainly lift your mood. Living in the moment is not a bad thing. It’s definitely a good thing when you seem a bit down, moody, or want something new and different in your life.
Everyone has a different definition of what living in the moment means. It could be taking a random and spontaneous trip to a place you’ve never been to before. Another could be just watching your favorite television show and eating popcorn when you could be working (nothing is wrong with that). Another one could be having quiet time (Bible study or quieting the mind) and just enjoying the solace.
Whatever moment you want to create, live these moments, and make sure you don’t regret them.
Here are several ways you can live these moments:
- Let go of the past
- Not focusing on the small stuff that irritates you
- Not worrying about the future
- Focusing on what you have
Create A Life You Want By Practicing The Art Of Giving
Another way to create a life you want is to give. It doesn’t just make the other person feel good and blessed, but it also blesses you. It does good to your heart and life. If you want to start giving, do it on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Just like the first section, the art of giving comes in many styles. Here are some ways you can give in your own way:
- Spend time with friends and family
- Your time with volunteering in hospitals and nursing homes (such as volunteer match)
- Giving material gifts for no apparent reason
- Using your gifts and giving yourself as a servant at the church to glorify God
- Being kind to others (opening doors, praying for someone, even just saying thank for something someone has done in your life)
Overall, when you give freely, you expect nothing in return. What you can expect as a return for your service, is a simple appreciation, thank you, a smile, and gratitude.
Create A Life You Want By Being Self-Aware
Create a life you want by being self-aware. Being self-aware means that you notice yourself consciously. You’re basically checking on yourself in various ways: your thoughts, your actions, your well-being, physical, and even spiritual. Are you happy with yourself? When you know yourself, you have a better chance of taking successful steps to where you want to be. What are your weaknesses? Know them and work through them. Are you having issues with yourself or someone else? Resolve it and move forward. Life is too short to be mad or upset at someone for doing this or that to you. Even when it is hard, and sometimes hard to let go, just think about how much better your life could be if you weren’t mad at that person. Your life will definitely see brighter days.
Create A Life You Want By Reaching Out To People
As an introvert, I LOVE my space. And sometimes, it’s more than my friends. However, I love my friends and spending time with them is fun too. To create the life you want, if you’re an introvert, then you have to reach out to people. Talk to people. If you’re shy to reach out to even one person, then why don’t you join a group? Places like meetups provide events of various categories. From book clubs, dance, to even photography. There is something for everyone. Another way to reach out to people be also by giving your time to someone, forgiving someone, and building healthy relationships with those around you. Reach out to your people rather than waiting for them to reach out to you!
Create A Life You Want By Being More Optimistic
Now, there is a difference between blind optimistic and realistic optimism. When you’re blindly optimistic, you’re positive and hopeful of what’s around you but you’re blinded by the pitfalls. They can lead you to be downright negative or depressed! However, if you’re realistically optimistic, you can still be hopeful for the future, but you know and acknowledge the pitfalls that may come your way. One thing I would say between these two is that one keeps going with their life while the other stops where they are. So which one are you? The blind optimistic gal/guy or the latter?
There are other ways to be optimistic as well. If things DO go wrong, do let the situation get upset for a certain length amount of time. Learn to laugh, learn to see the good in the bad. Fix your problems rather always complaining (it gets you nowhere), learn to have fun, and learn to remove yourself from those naysayers.
Create A Life You Want By Doing What You Love
These words may be cliche but they’re totally true. I think some of us do not create the life we want due to circumstances, our mindset, and what others tell us about how we should live. Then, years later, you tell yourself that you wished you could have done this differently if you didn’t listen to so-and-so, then your life could’ve turned out the way you expected to be. Now I am not saying that you should quit your job now and pursue your passion. One thing that you could do is doing what you love on the side. Go to work in the morning, or night, then come back home and continue on your passions.
There’s no better time to start doing what you love. It starts now, not later. You may regret later for something you could’ve started now.
Create A Life You Want By Taking Care Of Yourself
Taking care of yourself is not difficult but some of us ignore the fact that our bodies, our minds, and our well-being need to be taken care of properly to function better in our environment. I’m not trying to mean or rude, but it is the truth. I know for myself that I sometimes didn’t take care of myself well. I slept late, ate at midnight, and so on. But I learned my lessons and I’m now on the road to building a healthy lifestyle.
Taking care of yourself comes in many ways. From practicing self-care, sleeping early, seeking healthy relationships, to even speaking positive affirmations to yourself and your environment. If you’re a Christian, praying to find the time to pray in a quiet place and reading your bible is a sure way to taking of yourself, and most of all, awakening the spirit to lead you and guide your way.
Create A Life You Want By Building Good All-Around Health
Eating the right foods, drinking water several times a day, and getting 6-8 hours of sleep are all good ways to build good health. It doesn’t have to stop there though. Here are more ways to building all-around good health for your self overall:
- Limit your phone time to 1 hour a day ( unless you’re checking your emails)
- Don’t smoke
- Don’t drink alcohol every day (or at all)
- Don’t overeat
- Eat more veggies
- Love yourself more
- Pray more (for yourself and others)
- Give more (more likely your time and service)
- Forgive more
- Look on the bright side
- Don’t rely on money to get you things. Some things in life are free if you seek it!
- Dance to some music
- Get out of the house and about
- Spend time with friends and family
- Laugh more
- Hope more
As you can see, it’s all about the choices you have and what you do with them. So if you want to live well, do things that are good for your body, mind, and soul.
Create A Life You Want By Developing Quality Time With The Lord
One thing I am working on myself is spending time with God, whether it is by praying and reading my bible, or one over the other. If you’re in the same situation I’m in, then hey let’s be accountable partners! I mean really. In Jeremiah 29:11, The Lord says that He has a plan for us, one that doesn’t harm but hopeful one and a good future. So if you have a passion that you want to serve and show the world, why don’t you let God guide you to fulfill it while it can also glorify his name? All you need to ask God “Lord how can I glorify your name and serve you through my life?” That’s it. Just be faithful and thankful to Him and all things will be added to you. It may not come all of a sudden, but it will come in His time.
Create A Life You Want By Achieving More Goals That May Be Out Of Your Comfort Zone
Do you have any new goals but you’re afraid to step out of your comfort zone? Well, it may be needed. If you want some pointers and tips to step out of your comfort zone, I wrote a post on some simple ways to step out of your comfort zone so you can finally move forward and live an abundant life. Learn to say yes when you hear no. Understand that failure is the only failure when you give up on your goals. So to create the life you want, it requires you to face those obstacles (which already is stepping out of your comfort zone). Start small goals (which do have to be out of your comfort zone, even for a bit) and then build up from there.
