There are two ways you can live your life. It is either by having a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. Don’t know what these are? Well, let me explain in plain terms.
Those with the “fixed mindset” frame of mind tend to feel that their skills, potential, and abilities are pre-determined and are not able to be improved upon. Having a “fixed’ mindset tends to think that you’re powerless and is unable to manipulate your skills, talents, abilities.
With a “growth mindset”, your mentality is open to the idea that there is always room for improvement if you’re willing to work enough at it. Those with a “growth” mindset are more open to improve their skills and become more competent in their journey.
For example, let’s say you want to change careers. Now you can either go with a fixed mindset where you believe that your skills and abilities can’t be changed or improved even though you want to transition into a new career.
Or you can go with the latter, the growth mindset, where you’re willing to accept the challenge of changing careers with positivity and optimism. You recognize that learning something new is necessary and will improve your prospect of future careers you desire.
So which one brings out more potential?
In this post, I will discuss the ways you can change your mind, specifically on how to develop a growth mindset, so you can fully thrive in all aspects of your life.
Let’s get started.
This post is about how to improve your mind
Create Healthy Boundaries
To develop a growth mindset, you will need to set boundaries, healthy boundaries that is. Creating healthy boundaries will allow you to grow within so you can take action outside. It will allow you to listen to how you feel, what you want, how you want to go about your goals, and also create a positive environment you desire. It will also let your circle respect you as an individual who needs to respect and treat you well.
If you have friends and family that “protects” you from failing at life, it’s time to set healthy boundaries. Because the only way to be successful in life does have to come with a bit fails. You will need to step out and grow to experience and thrive in life.

Observe Your Thoughts With Mindfulness
To change your mind, you need to observe your thoughts. To do that, you need to be mindful of them. When you catch yourself thinking negatively, observe the thought, but not too much. Then ask yourself these questions: What made you think of this? Is this thought factual or can it be changed? What can you do to turn this thought from negative to positive?
Your thoughts determine your actions, therefore by observing your thoughts and changing them, it brings you to a new level of personal growth. You can start by using these 50 thoughts for personal growth to begin your growth mindset journey.
Journal Your Thoughts
Similar to mindfulness, if you catch a negative thought, grab a notebook or phone, jot the thought down. This can help you acknowledge how you see yourself. If you see yourself as a nobody or believe that a failure is always an option, because you’ve failed once or twice at something, then you’re limiting yourself.
So use a journal to write down the thoughts that come into mind. You can even allow yourself to sit down for a few minutes and jot down some thoughts that come into mind when you want to start a goal.
Here is some journal prompts to get you started:
- Think about a goal you want to accomplish in your life and write it down.
- Is this desire strong enough for you to pursue it?
- Why do you want to reach this goal? How important is this to you?
- How will it change your life?
- As much as possible, write down the reasons why you wouldn’t be able to reach it.
- Look at each of these reasons, really look at them. For each one, write down the possible ways you can achieve the goal if there were no obstacles in your way.
- What are some affirmations you can say to yourself that would encourage you to reach your goal and thrive in life?
These few questions should help you understand that any goal can be achieved if the desire is strong.
Promote A Wellness Lifestyle
Our mindset can expose us in many ways, especially in how we live. Living in negativity can impact our lifestyle, in how we eat and live. It can cause stress and even negative health conditions.
To have a growth mindset, you need to also eat and live well. Eating food in moderation, incorporating fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water, controlling your stress by promoting stress relief practices, exercising (in a form of walking or HIIT), and sleeping 6-8 hours every night will further develop a healthy mind and a healthy attitude towards yourself. If you want to start developing your mental wellness today, here’s a post I wrote that highlights the several ways you can apply appropriate mental wellness practices today.
Declare Victory Over Your Thoughts
As a Christian, I believe that the mindset is powerful, as much as words are. What you think, comes in what you say and act. Therefore we need to guard your mindset by implementing positive, encouraging, and life-changing thoughts.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 24:3 NIV
You can also do that with the mind. Negative thoughts, which can also come from the lies of the enemy, will come but declare that they won’t define you or overcome you. Use the WORD of God to guide your thoughts so you can thrive.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
Remember, thoughts are only thoughts until you apply them in your lifestyle!
Recognize That Mindset Growth Is A Process
Any type of growth is a process, especially when considering the mind. Some thoughts are harder to change than others because they’ve been present to us from an early age. But that still doesn’t mean that it can’t be changed. Renewing your mind will take time but if you’re willing and desire to see your life thrive, then apply these practices. You will change your life for the better.
There you go! I hope you found this post helpful. Know that you can change your life, but you have to step out. You will be scared, there’s no doubt about it. But just know that if you truly want to live a thriving happy life, what outweighs more, your fears/comfort zone, or your whole life?
Until Next Time,
