Most of us can agree that positive thinking is important. It tends to make us feel better, be more productive and reduces stress.
The problem is, our lives aren’t always rosy. Things happen, whether it is personal or widespread, as these current times.
Since this realist is part of our lives, it is sometimes tough to lift our spirits up during these difficult times. However, if you stick by these tips, you’ll be able to manage the tough times without difficulty. If you are struggling to stay positive and hopeful when going through tough times, try following these helpful and powerful tips.
This post is all about staying positive through the tough times.
Don’t Be Ignorant
No matter what you are dealing with, ignoring it is rarely the answer. Don’t place your head in the sand, thinking that this would all be over if you just ignore it. Such things never work that way. While ignoring problems might feel good in the short-term, it will drain your positivity long-term. Plus, many of the other tips listed here require you to acknowledge your circumstances first.
This Too Shall Pass
When you are in the midst of a crisis, it is nearly impossible to keep things in perspective. You might just think of the worst. That said, you need to recognize that your circumstances are temporary. They always are. Things might seem dreadful at the moment, but try your best to remember that “this too shall pass.”
Make a Plan
One of the single best things you can do to maintain positivity during tough times is to make a plan on how to deal with it. When you focus on the solution rather than the problem, you will naturally feel more positive. You will feel like you are rising to the challenge. So consider certain things that can help you move your thoughts toward the positive. If you’re thinking of food and what to make, consider researching recipes online that you can cook or bake for the time being. Let your thoughts be productive by doing something that is yes positive but also productive.

Think About the Things You are Grateful For
Even during great personal turmoil, you still have things you are grateful for. When things get tough, it is vital to remember that it is good in the world, and more importantly, in your life. When you are struggling, take some time to list the things in your life you are grateful for. The more you put this into practice, the more habitual it will be which in turn will bring you to a positive mental state.
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Reach Out for Support
Support in and support out! Reach out to loved ones and offer your support. Call a friend or a family member and communicate with each other. Reach out if you need assistance too. Use this time to talk about, laugh, and say things that you’ve always wanted to say to them. When things are dire, it is always nice when people pull together and help each other.
Take a Break
Sometimes our circumstances are so dire that we are forced to think about our problems constantly. It is OK to take a break. You can take a break from the news, social media, or other people. It might not be easy, but taking a break from external stimuli can help keep you positive. If you’re looking for other ways to be productive or to divert your attention to something else, I made up a 50+ list of activities you can do at home. Journal Your Feelings
Journaling is a powerful tool in so many ways. By simply giving you a place to express your fears and concerns, a journal helps you maintain positivity outside of its pages. Do you know how good it feels to vent to a friend? Well, consider your journal as your best friend. Do this daily to get your thoughts and feeling out there on paper. I utilize my journal regularly and it has helped me get my thoughts out. Prayer is my go-to, but journaling follows along.

Focus on Things You Can Control
When your world seems like it is spinning out of control, you may feel helpless. One way to address this and stay more positive is to focus on the things you can control. Instead of worrying about things out of your control, focus on making sure you do your best job on the things you can control. Tend to all of your areas of self-care. You can control your thoughts, your emotions, how much you eat and many more things that are dependant on your choices. Let your inner wellbeing relax and be at peace so that you can maintain control within yourself, despite what’s going on out there.
