Do you absolutely know what you want in life? I believe some of us have a difficult time finding out what we really want in life? Or we get so distorted about what we want based on what we see on social media, people we admire, and the likes. I mean do you really want to travel? Do you really want to be a photographer? Are you really into beanie babies (just guessing)?
The list can go on and on. We get so inspired to follow people that urge us to do this or that, but in the end, is that what we truly want to do, or is this another shiny object that will get broken, dull, or lost?
I urge you, dear readers, to look within yourself and find YOUR want. Only then, you will positively become the person you were always meant to be or even want to be, in your purest form.
So do you want to find out the ways you can uncover what you really want in life? In this post, I will present to you several ways to determine what you really want, and how you can assess it. This way you can go ahead and create the life you want your way, and not from anyone else. You can only be you.
Also, remember this: there will be some trial and error when you test out these things. In the end, you’ll learn some things that will eventually lead you to what you really want in life.
Let’s get started.
- Look Into What You Value
- Reminisce The Past
- Look Into Your Hobby/ Interest/ Passion
- Consider Your Feelings & Current Situation
- Get Out There!
1. Look Into What You Value
Values are things that we believe in that is right, worthy and true within our lives. There are certain things we value. Do you love to laugh? That may be something missing in your life. Are you a volunteer? Do you love servitude? Try another organization that lines up with your belief. But first and foremost, you have to figure what you value most in your life. Then, you can go down the list to determine what you truly want to do in life.
For example, my values are servitude, laughter, curiosity, independence, and creativity. Those are the values I live by. If you need any help in understanding what your values are, let me know in the comments below!
2. Reminisce The Past
Remember the good old days? Well, this notion is true in some form. Were there things that you wished you could do but never got around to do it? Write them down in your journal and see if any of these things resonate with that you really want in life at this time.
If you like painting in the past but never got around it now, try painting again. If you really liked volunteering, or anything that brought interest in your life in the past; seek it, do it, and see if this any of these things are what you want in life.
3. Look Into Your Hobby/ Interest/ Passion
Maybe you’re a great a knitter or a great artist. Do you feel like you want to do more with your gifts? Do you want to showcase your talent to the world?
Do you like going to the museum? Is there something about it you won’t do? Do you want to blog about it? Do you want to visit all sorts of museums in the course of your lifetime?
These are just simple questions that I hope helps you determine if what you really want in life comes from the things you like doing on a daily basis or when you have the time.
4. Consider Your Feelings & Current Situation
Feelings are one of the best ways to determine what you truly are missing in life. Are you sad? Are you apathetic? Do you laugh constantly? Do you feel scared about something?
If you have a journal, write any emotions or feelings down that you may be feeling at certain times of the day. For a week or two, if you find yourself feeling a certain way all the time (mostly negatively), that particular emotion may be the culprit finding out the missing piece to what you desire in your life.
When you have figured out that feeling, see if the emotions align with any situation you’re in. It may be your job, your home, or your social media.
When you’ve figured out that out, you’re on your way to figuring out the missing link in your life.
5. Get Out There!
Are you really missing something in your life? Or you’re just wishing and hoping something happens in your life?
One that thing you could certainly do is get out there! You won’t really figure out what you want in life until you do something. Maybe you’ve been feeling a certain way because you really haven’t done anything productive or fun in your life. Add these activities to your lifestyle.
There you go!
